About Us

It’s nice of you to take the time to get to know us better. Here are some things about us that we thought you might like to know.

History – The Greater Noida Sharadia Sanskritik Samiti

Back in 2001 about 30 odd Bengali families got together with an urge to celebrate the Durga Puja in a community environment. The primary disadvantage faced by the group was availability of land for the Puja. This small group finally surmounted this obstacle and successfully celebrated the occasion.

Buoyed by their success, the team decided to register a society and get land allocated in their name so that they can celebrate every year.

Hence, the birth of the ‘Greater Noida Sharadia Sanskritik Samiti’ and subsequent registration in the year 2003. Since then the society has seen the confluence of Bengalis in the region so much so that we now have over 650 members and over 230 life members.

In the year 2009 we were allotted 6,000 sq. mtr of land in Sector-Pi-2 by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority. As of now, we have been able to build two small temples one for Goddess ‘Kali’ and the other for Lord ‘Shiva’.

A temporary shelter for the on-campus ‘purohit’ has also been erected so that he can stay on campus and perform the daily rituals.

Currently

Since 2012 we have started celebrating ‘Durga Puja’ on our own land. We perform ‘Amabashya’ Puja every month at the ‘Kali’ temple. Every full moon we organise ‘Satyanarayan Katha’.

We also come together to celebrate other festivals like the Republic Day, Independence Day, Bengali New Year, Rabindra Jayanti, Saraswati Puja etc. Cultural programs are organised so that Bengalies away from Bengal can still relive their rich cultural background.

Over and above that the samiti undertakes certain social activities like organisation of blood donation camps, provision of relief to victims of natural calamity like flood, earthquake etc.

Roadmap Ahead

In the days to come, the principal focus would be to pay off the remaining outstanding value of the land to GNIDA and get the land registered in the name of the Samiti.

The next focus would be to build facilities like a Convention Hall, Library, Charitable Dispensary, Indoor Play Area, Outdoor Playground and Dharmasala.
